I look forward to sharing in communion with you at 8, 930 and 11am this Sunday. We will also reflect on the book of Joshua; Chapter 7 of The Story:
This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth; you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to act in accordance with all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall be successful. I hereby command you: Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.
- Joshua 1:8-9
We love the line - 'Be strong and courageous...' But remember the the context: "Act in accordance with what is written in the law..." Before we began our journey through the story I drew our attention to 2 Timothy 3:16. Paul reminds us that scripture is useful for 'teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that all God's people may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.'
How has reading the story so far 'trained you in righteousness?' How have you been challenged? Are you going to take up those challenges? Are you going to ignore them in the hope that they will go away? Or are you going to rise to them?
As you take up the challenges - you might be tempted to give up before you've started. I have Joshua 1:9 printed and presticked to the wall above my desk: "Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go."
I pray that as you do your best to share the light and love of Christ wherever you are that you will know that "God is with you wherever you go."
New Member's Coffee, Sunday 4pm
At 4pm this Sunday I want to invite everyone who wants to know more about what it means to be a member of this church to come to an orientation coffee. This is a chance to get to know each other and the various organizations and Bible Studies within the congregation.
I ask that every mission group / Bible Study sends a representative so that you can share your ministry and invite others to join.
I will also give a short presentation on what it means to be a member of a church.
If you're an 'old' member and you want to come along you are also most welcome.
